HILLSIDE, Ill. (WLS) — A newly hired college security guard has been charged with battery after being accused of physically assaulting a student at Proviso West High School in Hillside last week.

Eligah Skinner, 25, has been charged with irritated battery in a public place and professional misconduct in the incident.

Grainy video launched Friday evening appeared to display an employee grasp and throw a student to the ground in a lecture room in an “unprompted assault” at Proviso West.

According to courtroom paperwork, Skinner was once a newly hired off-duty Phoenix Police Officer, working as a security officer at Proviso West. He’s accused of battery against a 17-year-old boy, who is a senior at the college.

Prosecutors said Skinner is a sworn officer however continues to be in coaching and has no longer but been absolutely qualified. He used to be operating part-time for Proviso Township High Schools District 209 at the time of the incident.

Court documents say the sufferer was drawing on a white board Friday with permission from his instructor when Skinner, who used to be holding a deflated dodgeball in his hand at the time, entered the study room without permission from the trainer and ordered the student to prevent drawing.

When the boy refused, Skinner allegedly threw the dodgeball, a bottle of lotion and a water bottle at him.

Students started videotaping the incident as Skinner reportedly took the boy’s marker, then picked the boy up and threw him on a table, then desks and then the ground, consistent with courtroom paperwork.

Skinner is also accused of striking his knee on the boy’s chest and his hand across the student’s upper chest or neck space. The boy said he had a hard time respiring.

Eventually, the student was once launched and the police were contacted, prosecutors stated.

Skinner reportedly admitted he did throw quite a lot of items at the student but stated the boy initiated it.

Teachers and classmates stated the victim was once by no means aggressive towards Skinner.

“I am extraordinarily disappointed, no — I’m upset by what transpired as of late. No adult must ever put their palms on a child in that means – especially not in a college atmosphere,” Superintendent Dr. James Henderson stated in a written remark at the time.

Henderson stated he directed faculty team of workers to touch government in an instant and the assailant was taken into custody. He will not be allowed again on faculty grounds, the superintendent stated.

Skinner’s bail used to be set at $5,000. He’s next due in courtroom Dec. 20.
