Former Michigan State basketball star Keith Appling a suspect in fatal shooting

DETROIT — Detroit police named a former Michigan State University basketball star because the suspect in a deadly shooting late Saturday.

Keith Appling, 29, was sought after in connection to the shooting death of a 66-year-old man, in step with a police information release. The slain guy used to be not immediately recognized.

Police stated Appling and the person were given into a controversy Saturday night time that escalated into a bodily battle. Appling is accused of firing a number of pictures, fatally wounding the person. Police stated Appling drove clear of the scene and has not been captured.

Appling confronted drug charges in February 2020, and according to news shops was once sentenced in December to 18 months probation. In 2017, he was sentenced to a 12 months in prison for carrying a hid weapon and resisting police.

Appling played for Michigan State from 2010 to 2014. He also played basketball overseas and had two brief contracts with the Orlando Magic.
